John Carmack stops as chief technical officer of Oculus. He is still involved with the company and will give advice, but that won't take much time according to him. Carmack will start working on artificial intelligence related work.
John Carmack announces his career switch on Facebook. There he says that he thinks he can contribute to the field of artificial intelligence and that he will do so from home for the time being. However, he remains an employee of Facebook, as the company confirms to Variety.
The top man remains involved with Oculus as a consultant. According to Carmack, in this role he will continue to give advice on the development of the company's vr equipment, but this will only take a modest part of his time. The name of his successor within Oculus has not yet been announced.
